Challenges Faced by Young Women Entrepreneurs (YWEs)

Social norms, family responsibilities, and the demands of managing both home and business have limited some YWEs’ opportunities for personal growth, resource mobilization, and business expansion. This isolation has led to a narrow perspective and a fixed mindset, hindering their ability to seek effective solutions when faced with personal, family, or business challenges.

Interventions and Solutions Implemented

The WELL program, funded by WE Act, has strategically integrated networking as a key element for open-mindedness, growth, and business sustainability. YWEs are encouraged to build networks among 40 grantees and other networking groups. Notably, WELL has connected and arranged for the grantees to join the Lady Saving Group (LSG), providing them with long-term benefits similar to those offered by the WELL program.

Results of the Interventions: Impact on Target Beneficiaries

“Networking has helped me support other businesses and gain access to additional resources such as information about training courses, business growth opportunities, increased sales, and supplier contacts. Joining the Lady Saving Group and networking with WELL’s grantees has boosted my sales, knowledge, confidence, emotional well-being, and overall happiness. I’ve also learned the importance of saving and effective financial planning, which has helped me avoid future debt,” expressed Ms. Hay Nita, Owner of Smita, hand-made vegetable pickle and street restaurant.

Through networking among WELL grantees, they have become business partners or suppliers to each other. For example, Smita supplies Kimchy to Kasephal Rikreay who retails local products. Some have become long-term customers of Smita and other YWEs’ businesses. This collaborative approach demonstrates the power of networking and its positive impact on business growth and sustainability.

Future Plans and Recommendations

The success of networking has underscored its importance as a tool for long-term sustainability for both personal and business growth. The program emphasizes the expansion of networks for better opportunities and increased support for YWEs. The goal is to continue building networks that enable YWEs to thrive by leveraging collective strength and support.
